Canon ef 70-300mm f 4-5.6 is usm ม อสอง

I used it with a Canon 600D (which is a crop sensor camera), mostly handheld but also with a monopod.

Image quality - lovely! Had no problems with IQ and got some very very nice pics. I had a 70-200L (F4.0) a while back (rated as one of the best lens Canon has ever made) and this was almost as good, with the added advantage of 201-300mm, it was decently sharp even when I was at 300. Keep in mind you're not going to get the creamy bokeh you get with the 200 of course. I used it for portraits as well as distance shots of wildlife - it performed beautifully in both.

Focusing - this is where it loses 1 star. Although it does a good job of focusing it does hunt sometimes, at other times (at lower light) I had to manually focus and then half press the shutter and it did the rest. If you are used to the focusing speed of the 70-200s this is NOT the same. As its a f/4.0 - 5.6, as expected, the lower light shots are not its friend so expect to shoot at higher ISOs. Personally as I am not a pro I preferred to have this lens at f/4.0 rather than f/2.8 and out of my budget - I can higher my ISO and then cleanup but cant really put more money in my bank account at the press of a button.

Build - Heavy. But not so that you need to start going to the gym again, but heavy, I did a lot of handheld shots (good IS, quiet IS as well) and didnt really feel the strain so much. It has good build quality but again, not as good as the 70-200 because of the zoom that extends. Didnt get any zoom creep either. It feels good in the hand and you know its a piece of quality machinery.

Shame on canon not including a tripod ring with this, if you are not just hand shooting or monopod shooting you're gonna need the ring to stop it from tipping over - Canon sells the ring at a crazy ripoff price, search Amazon for other sellers that sell rings that are almost or "just as good" for a fraction of the price.

I ordered this lens 10 days before I was due to takeoff on my vacation.

It arrived from Amazon 3 days after I left...

This was very disappointing and the first time Amazon had let me down so badly, but customer service was as usual top notch and they agreed to take it back once I arrived back home.

I arrived close to a weekend so I decided to open the package and check it out, then post it back after the weekend, the above review is my experience with this lens for the 3-4 days that I used it.

After 3-4 days with this I had a hard time sending it back, I was very very tempted to keep it but: 1 - I am still irritated with Amazon for sending it to me so late/after I left so I thought it better for them to lose a sale (had they sent it to me in time for my vacation there was no way I was going to send it back as I *really* liked the lens) 2 - I've decided to take the money from this and put it towards getting the 5D Mark 3, so Amazon's screwup kinda worked good for me in the end ;)

That being said, once I gather up my pennies again I may buy this again for my 5D III... this IS a fantastic lens, in fact after using a 24-105, 70-200L 4.0, 50mm 1.4 and quite a few others - this is still one of my all time favorites.
