So chapter 86 of Gotoubun No Hanayome gave us a few more shocking revelations. We have long since entered the final act and I do think we will receive a few more shocks before a satisfying ending. Mandatory spoiler warning goes without saying.

In chapter 86, it was confirmed that the ‘Rena’ character who appeared in front of Fuu-kun was in fact Itsuki. It also showed the quintuplets making up and Miku accepting that she may not be able to capture Fuu-kun’s heart.

The shock was delivered at the very end of the chapter, when Itsuki apologizes to Yotsuba for impersonating her as ‘Rena’. Shockity shockity shockity shock. The revelation that Yotsuba also interacted with Fuu-kun during that fateful Kyoto trip of year’s past came out of nowhere, especially after the fact that in the previous chapter, it was revealed that Ichika was supposed to be the ‘Rena’ character.

This opens up contemplation that maybe another of the Quints, had an individual interaction with Fuu-kun that the others don’t know about.

This also changes Yotsuba’s position in the game completely. Earlier on, we couldn’t be sure if the confession she jokingly made and her supportive attitude towards Fuu-kun was a part of her personality or an indication of something more. Now we know it is an indication of something more. This also opens up an avenue for Yotsuba to receive a larger amount of attention in the following chapters and break free from her eternal side character role which I ignorantly assigned her in my original post.

Due to Yotsuba’s new dark horse status, and in lieu of recent events, I will now give a revised likelihood ranking for the final bride(if there is only *insert illuminati symbol*)

It’s still Itsuki at the top, but now it’s something like Itsuki>Yotsuba>=Nino=Miku>Ichika. I already my reasons for Ichika’s ranking in the last chapter dicussion, and also the fact that she officially withdrew from the battles in this chapter, but the reason I rank Nino and Miku equally is because they’ve completed their self-realization arcs and are at the same stage of acceptance of their situations. Yotsuba, I believe, has come out as a dark horse, hence her potentially higher ranking and Itsuki is, well, you know…

That’s all we got ch86, and I really can’t wait to see how Haruba-sensei actually finishes all of these plotlines.
