ข่าวน่าจะเป็นสิ่งที่คนทั่วไปอ่านมากที่สุด เพราะต่อให้งานยุ่งเพียงใดไม่มีเวลาอ่านหนังสือ แต่ก็น่าจะหยิบหนังสือพิมพ์มาอ่านข่าวบ้าง และในแง่ของการฟิต ภาษาอังกฤษ ข่าวก็เป็นสิ่งที่น่าใช้ฝึก เพราะนอกจากอ่านเพื่อความรู้
ศัพท์และสำนวนในข่าวยังทันสมัย ทันเหตุการณ์ ศัพท์ในเนื้อข่าวเมื่อรู้แล้วก็นำไปใช้อ่านเรื่องอื่น ๆ ได้ทุกเรื่อง

นำข่าวภาษาอังกฤษมาแปลเป็นไทยให้คนไทยได้ศึกษาภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งก็เป็นเรื่องดี มีการแปลศัพท์ให้ดู ทั้งแปลเป็นคำ ๆ
และแปลเป็นประโยค
แต่ผมมีความเชื่อว่า ถ้าเราตั้งเป้าว่า ต้องการอ่านข่าวภาษาอังกฤษให้รู้เรื่องเหมือนอ่านข่าวภาษาไทย หรือพูดง่าย ๆ ก็คือ อ่าน นสพ. Bangkok Post ให้รู้เรื่องเหมือน อ่าน นสพ.ไทยรัฐ หรือเดลินิวส์ เราต้องฝึกด้วยการอ่านข่าวภาษาอังกฤษจริง ๆ ไม่ใช่เอาแต่อ่านข่าวอังกฤษที่มีคำแปลไทยทั้งประโยคเป็นผู้ช่วยคอยรับใช้
แต่ถ้าอ่านไม่รู้เรื่องหรือรู้เรื่องน้อยมาก จะให้ฝึกยังไง? มีวิธีฝึกอยู่ 2 วิธี
ดังนี้
[1] เลือกฝึกกับข่าวที่ง่ายเหมาะสมกับทักษะการอ่านของเรา คือข่าวที่ไม่ยาก-ไม่ง่าย เกินไป เมื่อฝึกอย่างนี้ไปเรื่อย ๆ เราก็จะเก่งขึ้นไปตามลำดับ โดยขอให้พยายามหาข่าวประเภทที่เราชอบอ่าน หรือเป็นเรื่องที่เรามีพื้นฐานอยู่บ้าง จะช่วยให้อ่านง่าย ทั้งนี้มีหลายเว็บที่เขานำเนื้อข่าวมาเขียนแยกเป็นหลายระดับความง่าย-ยาก ให้เราเลือกศึกษา บางเว็บมีไฟล์ mp3 ให้คลิกฝึก listening ด้วย และบางเว็บยังบอกคำนิยามของศัพท์สำคัญอีกด้วย ข้างล่างนี้ครับ

ผมขอรับรองว่า ถ้าฝึกอย่างนี้ทุกวันไปสักปีเดียว ท่านจะสามารถอ่านข่าวภาษาอังกฤษได้รู้เรื่องพอ ๆ กับอ่านข่าวภาษาไทยเลยครับ

ได้รวมรวมข่าวภาษาอังกฤษซึ่งเป็นข่าวเก่า ระหว่างวันที่ 7 กุมภาพันธ์ 2007 ถึง 29 เมษายน 2010 รวม 136 ข่าว แต่ละข่าวประกอบด้วย

2)คำศัพท์ที่สำคัญพร้อมคำแปลไทย

การศึกษาข่าวอังกฤษแปลไทยทำนองนี้ ช่วยพัฒนา reading skill และ English vocabulary ได้เป็นอย่างดี โดยมีข้อแม้ว่า ท่านต้องอ่าน-แปล-ตีความ ด้วยตัวเองเสียก่อน ถ้าทำเที่ยวแรกแล้วเข้าใจไม่ครบถ้วน-งง-คลุมเคลือ-ไม่แน่ใจ ก็ให้ทำอีก 1 เที่ยว พูดง่าย ๆ ก็คือ ก่อนที่ท่านจะเขยิบลงไปอ่านคำแปลไทยที่เขาให้มา ท่านควรจะออกแรงอ่านให้สมองเมื่อยสักเล็กน้อยก่อน การอ่านต้นฉบับภาษาอังกฤษและตามด้วยคำแปลภาษาไทยทันที แม้จะช่วยให้ท่านรู้เรื่องอย่างรวดเร็ว แต่สมองจะไม่แข็งแรงเพราะไม่ได้ออกแรง และการพัฒนา reading skill และ English vocabulary ก็จะไปได้ช้า
